Oink

I've gotten involved in a great Alice and Wonderland Collaboration book through some friends I've made on Behance. It is a diverse group of Illustrators and Designers who are all executing a portion of the story. I immediately jumped on the opportunity to draw something pink fat and hairy, thus choosing to illustrate the pig baby passage. It was a really fun image to work out. Muahaha.

The publishing date (Go Capitalized Publishing go!) is hopefully the beginning of December so we can get copies sold for the holidays. It will be sold at Barnes & Nobles and Amazon....... SO BUY ONE! All proceeds are going to charity. Plus you get to stare at that pink belly as much of you want. Hehe.

When I can tear myself away from watching the Postseason and College Football (Gators you're KILLING me), I'll be posting my next two self assigned illustrations.

Be back soon kiddos.

Summerrrrrrrr please end

Holy crap where did the summer go? And what have I been doing? This is my first fall where I am not going back to school (sucks for you fellow scaddies! hehe), but I need to get working harder than ever.

I sat down and had a meeting with myself and decided I need to expand my portfolio to show different markets that my work could do well in. Patterns, food illustrations, editorial and more children's books. I've made a few great contacts lately so there should be some exciting work in the mix soon.

Here's a sneak peek at my foodsy pattern series! Here's my pies that are in the works...

How cute would this look on an apron or towel set? Yes, I though so too.

More patterns coming soon :)

107 degrees makes it a little hard to paint....

IT IS SO HOT OUTSIDE. It's making daily tasks hard to do. I've been trying to get out to the island in the middle of the marsh by my home to paint, but i just cant seem to do it as of yet. So....eventually, i'll have some field paintings up here.

The DEPARTURE show was fabulous! The turnout was incredible! It was packed the entire time, and I definitely didn't buy enough wine for the event. One Nine was a wonderful gallery to have a show. Here's some photos from the show....

BackTooEarth project is done! Here's how the gift card image turned out. Suuuuppper cute.

I did a quick turnaround project for Worldwide Bag Media for an episode of Cananda's "Grocery Bag". My illustrated props will we featured on the episode 'Bon Appetite Yall'

Preliminary work on my children's book dummy coming soon.

Last Day of College = complete

I am officially done with college! I had my last day of classes today, yet the work hasn't stopped! I'm still preparing last minute touches for the gallery show on friday, and I'm wrapping up my designs for the BackTooEarth project. I also made it into the CommArts show tonight at Savannah Station 5-7:30. Here's some recent goodies....

Alter-ego Haley = chef who can't stop eating everything.

Haircuts are fun....especially when your siamese twins.

Field painting of my favorite stoop in Savannah.

Here's that poster with the type on it...type by Roxy Torres. Aged version on the right is actually what we went with. She also yellowed it a bit I think.

Website Template for Back Too Earth Organic Cookies! I love how cute this turned out!!

I
I've been doing a ridiculous amount of storyboard for a SCAD Thesis music video collection by my wonderful boyfriend Bryce Phillips. I'm excited to see how they will turn out.

I have two hours to finish framing my work! YIKES!

We have over 300 people RSVPed for the show, it's going to be incredible! If you are in the Savannah area, please come out on Friday May 28th to One Nine Gallery! We would love to see you!

I worked with a friend of mine on a poster for an annual Savannah Golf Tournament. She handled the type and final piece a well as the art direction, and this is the image I made for her. We're going to age the golfer a bit more I think, apparently the golfers in this tournament aren't as young and hip. It's not his fault he's fabulous...

I'm now obsessed with the theater posters of James McMullan. I can't get enough of them. (above) His different treatments of watercolor are so wonderful, he utilizes washes as well as thick application and flat punchy color. I took a good look at his theater poster books for my creation of my own theater poster.

Initially this poster drove me crazy. There are so many parts of this story I was having trouble deciding what to portray and focus on. After 43857483957934 designs were thrown out, I went with this one. I rewatched Mamma Mia, and realized 95% of the movie was someone partying and dancing. Mamma Mia is one giant party. So, I wanted to capture that aspect in a single image for the poster. As well as a sweet and funky perspective.
A couple weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting Yuko Shimizu, Chris Sickels from Red Nose Studio, Christoph Niemann and Anita Koonz and hearing them speak about the direction Illustration is going. They discussed the importance of collaboration and shared some of their experience. I'm pretty sure I almost died when Anita said hello to me. Her New Yorker covers are what got me interested in the market of Illustration. Being in that room of Illustration giants was incredible!! I was also able to meet the Art Director of HOW Magazine and I think she'll be a great contact in the future. She even agreed to discuss my work with me.

I've got some freelance still in the works as well as some last minute projects..... new post coming soooooooooon

Hello mayyyy

So many exciting things have happened in the last two weeks! I have put together an 11 person show at ONE NINE GALLERY on May 28th at 7pm! Some of my particitpating classmates/colleagues include: Kelsey Garrity, Kristin McLaughlin, Erik Riley, Lauren O'Connell, Graham Abbott, Peach Tao, Sam Miller, Tyler Grobowsky, Gaby Molina, Darion McCoy and myself. The huge range of styles and tecniques is reallly awesome, it's going to be such a good show! (Not to mention all of the good food and booze we have ordered for it!) The show is called DEPARTURE, and the poster should be done by friday. We all created ship images reflecting our styles, and they are all so fun!

I also have a freelance project in the works right now. It's for the cutest organic cookie company, and I'm really excited about the imagery. I'm creating a partial template and a spot illustration for gift cards. Here's some ideas I've proposed:

If I had cookies growing my garden, I'd be the fattest kid on the block. This is really fun concepts to work with, I'm looking forward to working with this company again, I love companies that like fun whimsical designs.

I've also been working a lot of fun things up in Linda Warner Constantino's Watercolor for the Illustrator. Here is the food Illustration I made for a sectional piece in a cookbook...obviously the salad sections. I left room for type to be dropped into....
I've got a theatre poster with a deadline for this weekend, so that should be up soon, MAMMA MIA! Now that I've finished my new marketing plan, I've got so much to do!!

Website, logo, letterheads.... I'm a busy girl

So I've spent literally the last 3 days redesigning my website and teaching myself about Photoshop slices and Dreamweaver. I am proud to say I beat the Dreamweaver beast into submission and produced a streamlined and brand spankin' new website. Check it outttttt

http://haleyjonesart.com

Somehow I also found time to create my logo (thank God for Daniel Powers typography crash course) which is now plastered on all of my mailer goodies and website.

I've been researching art reps as well, I am highly considering signing with one as my next career move. I'm meeting with two this weekend at the Career Fair, but I have quite a few on my radar thanks to some research and directories....and the expertise of Daniel.

I am in contact with a publisher creating a childrens Ebook based on a set of children's songs, and I am creating a character based on the song "Fisherman Jack". They are making their decisions on illustrators based on the character design, so I'll have that up within the week.

I've been doing watercolor studies like a madwoman too..... next post next post.
